As hoped, I got a better receiver to drive my new speakers. It’s a Yamaha HTR-6130. It was an open-box display model from Radio Shack which is pretty much the only way Radio Shack is affordable.

The best thing about this is using the TosLink interface to bypass my noisy motherboard DAC. I was tired of hearing my cursor move.
